Connecting your domain
If you already own a domain — bought from GoDaddy, Squarespace, Namecheap or anywhere else — your JobsiteBoss website can answer on it. It takes two records and about ten minutes, and most of that is waiting.
What you are actually doing
Two separate jobs, in two different rows of the same screen, and it is worth knowing they are separate because people usually do one and stop:
- A TXT record that proves the domain is yours. It sits at
_jobsiteboss-verifyand holds a value only your account can see. Without it, anybody could type your address into their own account. - A CNAME or ALIAS record that makes the address reach us. It points at
cname.vercel-dns.com. Proving it is yours does not move any traffic on its own.
The steps
- In JobsiteBoss, open Website and type your domain under Your own domain. The exact records appear, with a copy button on each — they are unique to your domain, which is why they are not printed here.
- Open the DNS screen wherever you bought the domain. The section below names it for the common ones.
- Add both records. The Name box wants the short part only —
@for the domain itself, wwwfor the www version. Pasting the whole address there is the single most common mistake, and it produceswww.example.com.example.com. - Save, go back to JobsiteBoss and press Check now. It tells you which of the two records it can see, so a half-finished setup says which half.
- If it does not work straight away, it is usually just early — DNS can take up to an hour to spread. Nothing breaks while you wait; your site stays at its JobsiteBoss address the whole time.
Where the DNS screen is
GoDaddy
My Products → your domain → DNS → Add New Record. The boxes are called Type, Name, and Value. Name is @ for the domain itself.
There is no ALIAS record here, so the bare domain cannot point straight at a hostname. Use www as your address and set the bare domain to forward to it — usually called Forwarding or Redirect.
Squarespace
Settings → Domains → your domain → DNS Settings → Custom Records. The boxes are called Host, Type, and Data. Host is @ for the domain itself.
There is no ALIAS record here, so the bare domain cannot point straight at a hostname. Use www as your address and set the bare domain to forward to it — usually called Forwarding or Redirect.
If the domain is still attached to a Squarespace site, detach it first — Squarespace keeps its own records in place while it is connected.
Namecheap
Domain List → Manage → Advanced DNS → Add New Record. The boxes are called Type, Host, and Value. Host is @ for the domain itself.
Namecheap does have an ALIAS record, but it only works while the nameservers are Namecheap's own BasicDNS.
Cloudflare
your domain → DNS → Records → Add record. The boxes are called Type, Name, and Target. Name is @ for the domain itself.
Set the proxy status to DNS only — the grey cloud. Leaving the orange cloud on hides the real destination and the certificate cannot be issued.
Wix
Domains → your domain → Advanced → Edit DNS. The boxes are called Type, Host Name, and Value.
Amazon Route 53
Route 53 → Hosted zones → your domain → Create record. The boxes are called Record name, Record type, and Value.
Name.com
My Domains → your domain → DNS Records. The boxes are called Type, Host, and Answer.
There is no ALIAS record here, so the bare domain cannot point straight at a hostname. Use www as your address and set the bare domain to forward to it — usually called Forwarding or Redirect.
Somewhere else
wherever the domain was bought, on a screen called DNS, Name Servers, or Advanced DNS. The boxes are called Type, Name (or Host), and Value (or Data). Name is @ for the domain itself.
There is no ALIAS record here, so the bare domain cannot point straight at a hostname. Use www as your address and set the bare domain to forward to it — usually called Forwarding or Redirect.
About HTTPS
Once both records are in place we attach your domain to our hosting and the security certificate is issued for it automatically — usually within a few minutes of the DNS spreading. There is nothing for you to buy or install.
Stuck on a step? The check inside the app names the record it cannot find, which is usually the fastest way to see what happened.
